ABOUT US

When was the last time you heard God speak to you?

Many Christians admit that they haven’t heard God’s voice or that it’s difficult to discern. When we’re busy, it becomes even more challenging. The good news? It doesn’t have to stay this way.

We can make space to encounter God. We can make space to hear God’s voice.

We don’t want to say it, but we’re often too hurried and too distracted for God.

Adding another devotional won’t help. Instead we’re called to rearrange our lives.

OUR DIFFERENCE

Who Not What

Jesus calls us to focus on becoming—on being with him. While most discipleship methods focus on the ways in which we can further our faith, Focustsoul changes the narrative by focusing on the who—the author and finisher of our faith.

OUR METHODS

Ancient and Communal

Rather than a check-list of priorities, our studies utilize ancient spiritual practices and exercises within the context of community to teach us how to pause, reflect, and meditate on God’s word and God’s work for an intimate experience of peace.

OUR PURPOSE

Encountering God

Our attitudes, actions, and minds don’t change when we focus on our behaviors—and keep trying to do better. We change when we set our focus on Jesus. An encounter with God can change everything.

Focustsoul membership is different by design.

Focustsoul features communal exercises designed to guide our conversations. We believe that true community is a powerful way to experience freedom and growth in the Lord. Rather than siloed teachings, our focus is on collective learning and collaboration.

Our courses are rooted in Scripture and ancient practices.

For centuries believers have practiced how to wait patiently on the Lord (Psalm 37:7). Yet modern society has structured our devotionals and studies into quick fixes and weekend highs. Our guided courses and cohorts utilize ancient techniques of pacing and rhythms to understand how to be present and be still (Psalm 46:10).

We focus on doing less before adding more.

Focustsoul is not meant to be simply another addition to your busy schedule. Before diving in, our goal is to evaluate our lives and see what areas we need to prioritize, rearrange, or even remove. Our starter cohorts—Discernment: Seeking God's Will for Big Decisions and Taking Off My Masks and Being My True Self—guide us on a journey of resting, abiding, and waiting on the Lord.

Our Team

Duke Dillard

I'm Duke Dillard. My wife and I returned to America with our seven children after 20+ years in full-time cross-cultural ministry in three countries. We have been through fires, experiencing God's grace and growth through failures, difficulties, and tragedies as well as victories, breakthroughs, and miracles. God showed us His faithfulness.

Through our time abroad, we saw first-hand that God’s desire is for everyone to have a healthy, integrated soul. And this only happens as we consistently abide in Jesus.

Yet I as I looked around, I saw so many Jesus-followers NOT experiencing the rest and joy that Jesus promises. I felt a deep connection and wanted to help. I sought God for how to change that.

The Focustsoul online community and resources are the outgrowth of what God is teaching me. The methodologies, practices, and excersises are deeply rooted in our desire to abide and belong. Join thousands who have grown closer to Jesus through these resources.

Dan Smith

I’m Dano. I’ve spent over 25 years of my life in ministry experience in both the local church and cross-culturally.  From big church leadership to house church reality, I’ve learned that Jesus is faithful to meet us where we are, and the pace we keep makes space for him.  I love to support individuals and groups to encounter Jesus in the bible, and through spiritual formation practices that have existed for hundreds, or even a thousand years.

These practices are a part of my life, and have helped a very ambitious, stubborn, and dynamic leader, slow down, listen to the Holy Spirit, discern wisely, and be more present to his family, neighbors, and others on this journey.  In my second half of life, I’ve discovered joy, as both an astronaut and a farmer: journeying to new interior places and cultivating a space for others there.  Eager to walk that path with you.

“You must arrange your days so that you are experiencing total contentment, joy, and confidence in your everyday life with God.”
